Episode 134: Rosie Withey: On Emotional Wellbeing and Learning to Listen to Our Emotions

In this episode, we're joined by Emotional Wellbeing Coach Rosie Withey. Rosie has spent her whole life on and around horses: competing, training and simply spending time with them. They have supported her through some of her darkest times and accompanied her on some of her most exhilarating experiences and she has learned (and continue to learn) so much from them.

Rosie trained as a Riding Coach, qualified as a BHSAI in 1986 and built Hartley Riding Centre from scratch. In 1999 a life-changing opportunity came her way. Rosie was offered the role of Show Jumping coach to the British Pentathlon team and trained the team to Olympic success.

At about the same time Rosie became interested in complementary therapies and trained in Reiki, Radionics, Hypnotherapy and Life Coaching. In 2003 she sold the Riding Centre and took some time out to consider how to bring together all her skills. In 2006, having moved to a lovely new home with her partner Andy, Rosie bought a new horse, called Jack and with him came my answer to what next!

Rosie's personal journey with Jack led her to Arizona to train and qualify in Equine Facilitated Learning in 2010. What she learned about the importance of congruence and authenticity now forms the basis of her work. The philosophy that underlies all of Rosie's work, is that your relationship to yourself, and the ability to be who you really are, is the foundation from which all relationship springs – with your loved ones, your professional colleagues, and your wider community.

In 2017 Rosie also began to transfer some of the emotional intelligence and mindful elements of my EFL work into online coaching.

Rosie now has a variety of work which includes online coaching; 121 equine facilitated learning sessions with Jack and Bramble and 3, 4 and 12-day workshops at her venue near Monmouth.

In this episode, we explore:

  • emotional wellbeing

  • suppressing emotions

  • what message our emotions are conveying

  • fear vs vulnerability

  • working with horses

  • congruence

  • masking emotions

  • congruency vs authenticity

  • envy

and loads more.
